The existence of an iPad that is smaller than the current 10" version has long been debated, articulated and rejected since the first generation of iPad was launched. Back then, the idea was believed to be flat out rejected by Steve Jobs.
Now we are one year after Steve Jobs departure. Many things have changed since the magical iPad was first introduced. The market dynamics are entirely different now. It has now been 2.5 years since Apple ventured into an undefined and uncharted territory of tablet computing. Today, we have just heard from Tim Cook and company that over 100,000,000 units of iPad have been sold. That was truly an amazing feat. An accomplishment so great that even Apple themselves would not be able to repeat it, not mentioning all other device makers out there.
Today, Apple fans around the globe are jumping with joy. As Tim Cook put it, there have been a flurry of tablet alternatives being launched over the past year alone. Yet, no genuine consumers have set their sight on those tablets other than the iPad. According to Cook, the reason is simple, consumers simply love the iPad.
Affection for the iPad is not a phenomenon that applies only to Apple fans. From our children to our grandparents. From techie to laymen. Everyone would agree what a joy iPad experience is and what a crap all the other tablet alternatives that have emerged is. While hundred of millions of people have bought the iPad, there are certainly hundreds more millions out there who have been putting iPad as their top wish list, but simply hold back by the high price tag.
With the availability of iPad mini, things are about to change. I believe given its lower starting place, iPad mini is in prime position to be Apple's next blockbuster device. In Singapore, pre-order for iPad mini is just days away. It will be this Friday, October 26. It happens to be a holiday here in Singapore. So, if you badly want to get hold of the mini by its launch date (November 2), you may want to stay up a little longer to make sure that you are among the first to submit your pre-order. Remember that iPhone 5 has recently broken its weekend sales record. If you do a check with any of the local telco in Singapore, there is a good chance that they would not have stock anymore.
Remember the date! Friday, October 26 to Pre-Order and the iPad mini will be launched in Singapore on November 2.
